Everything you need to know about lip blushing

  • Lip blushing is a form of permanent makeup that enhances the beauty of the natural lip color and improves the shape of the lips. This cosmetic tattoo defines the shape and gives the illusion of fullness.

  • The cost of an initial appointment is $400. A complimentary 6-12 week touch-up is mandatory to complete the lip tattoo.

    • You have HIV, Hepatitis or any other infection or viral disease

    • You are undergoing chemotherapy

    • You are epileptic

    • You develop infections easily

    • Your previous tattoo is too dark or thick

    • Your natural lips are too dark and thick

  • It’s actually not very painful at all. Although lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the human body, two different numbing creams are used throughout the process.

Clients who take blood thinners or have consumed caffeine will be extra sensitive to pain. It is recommended to not consume caffeine or alcohol 24 hours prior to the service.

Clients who have scars on their lips will be extremely sensitive as well.

The pain, if any, is completely bearable.

  • It is very much like getting a regular tattoo. A tattoo pen with a needle cartridge gently deposits pigment into the skin to build a color onto the lips. Micropigmentation allows the artist to have full control over how bold the color of the lip is.

  • The color of pigment is entirely custom to each client based on personal preference, skin undertone, the Fitzpatrick scale and the artist’s professional judgement.

  • The technique used for lip blushing produces a subtle, natural look. It is meant to look like a “lip tint”, rather than a bold lip. The saturation of the lip can be built even more during the 6 week touch-up. It is always better to start with less than more!

  • Lip blushing begins to fade away within 2-5 years but most clients will find that they want a touch-up yearly to keep their color fresh.

The retention for lip blushing varies between clients. Factors for retention include: the color chosen, your lifestyle, touch-ups, and how your lips are cared for before and after your appointment.

If you have oily skin, an iron deficiency, or a very strong immune system, your lip tattoo will not heal as crisp or last as long as others

  • The initial appointment takes about 2-3 hours and the touch-up takes about 1-2 hours.

  • The healing process is actually quick compared to some other permanent makeup services like microblading. It only takes 4-5 days for the lips to be completely healed.

Immediately after the appointment you will experience swelling and tenderness however these symptoms only last for about a day. The swelling is comparable to getting your lips injected with filler. This is completely normal and is the reason why lips look so plump in photos of lips that are freshly tattooed.

Your lips will also appear darker for the first couple of days.

It is important that you apply the aftercare ointment given to you at your appointment throughout the healing process. Your lips will be chapped so it is important to keep them moisturized as they are healing.

  • Yes! Having lip filler does not interfere with the process or results of lip blushing. Lip filler and lip blush appointments MUST be at least 4 weeks apart from each other.

  • Yes but only 2mm. The skin of the lips is far different than the skin on the rest of the face. Because of this, lip blushing can look unnatural or the healed results can be very unpredictable when the tattoo is too far outside of the lipline.

Aftercare

    • Wipe your lips every hour with damp cotton rounds on day 1

    • Apply a cold compress and take Advil to help with swelling and soreness

    • Wash your lips morning and night with a gentle cleanser for 5 days

    • Keep your lips extremely moisturized from day 1-5

    • Drink water through a straw for the first 5 days

    • Wear sunscreen to protect your lip tattoo during the 6 week healing process

    • Make sure to wait 6 weeks for complete healing to see the final result

    • Make sure your pillow case is clean

    • Refrain from eating spicy foods for the first 2 days

    • Do not pick at any scabs or flakes

    • No hot showers, hot tubs, steam or saunas for 5 days

    • Refrain from applying makeup on your fresh tattoo for the first 5 days

    • Do not use any active ingredients on or near your lip area for 30 days

    • Do not sweat on your tattoo for 5 days (salt from sweat deteriorates pigment)

    • Do not sleep on your face to avoid prematurely lifting scabs

    • Do not expose your tattoo to UV rays or tanning beds for 4 weeks after the service. This can alter your tattoo drastically

    • Avoid harsh cleansers, creams, and makeup until all of the scabs have fallen off

    • Do not get your tattoo wet for too long. It can make the scabs soggy and they will fall off prematurely

    • Do not touch your tattoo with dirty fingers. Remember that it is a healing wound and an infection could potentially ruin the tattoo.

    • Do not get any facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks after your appointments

    • Salt water and chlorine can deteriorate pigment so it is recommended that you rinse with water after contact

    • Do not use benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, glycolic acid, apple cider vinegar, vitamin E and C, and retinol on your lip tattoo. These products can lighten or fade your tattoo faster
